What affects the cost of a business website in Nigeria?

A practical guide to website scope, CMS choices, content, timelines and ongoing costs, by Eugene Odibenuah at BuildWithLami.

By Eugene Odibenuah · Founder of BuildWithLami

A useful website quote explains what your business will receive, what you must supply and what happens after launch. Comparing only the headline price can hide differences in content, editing tools, integrations and ongoing support. Here is how I break down that decision at BuildWithLami.

Start with the job the website needs to do

A service business may need prospective customers to understand its offer and send a qualified enquiry. A retailer needs product information, checkout and order management. A company with client accounts needs a different level of permissions and backend work.

Write down the most important action a visitor should take. Then list the pages and information needed to help them take it. This makes it easier to distinguish essential launch work from features that can follow later.

Page templates and functionality shape the build

A five-page brochure site is a different project from a website with a product catalogue, customer accounts and payment integration. Even the same page count can involve different work: five pages using one layout differ from five individually designed experiences.

  • Agree the page templates and content types before development.
  • List each integration, including forms, payments, booking and email.
  • Define migration work if you already have content or customer records.
  • Include mobile behaviour, accessibility checks and launch testing in the scope.

Decide who will update the content

If your services rarely change, a focused website can be enough. If staff need to add articles, update services or manage resources, an editable content system may be worth including from the start.

At BuildWithLami, the Starter website scope excludes a CMS; the Growth website scope includes one. Check the current package details rather than assuming every website includes an admin dashboard. A custom business application has a broader scope again.

Content readiness affects the timeline

Before work starts, gather your logo, service descriptions, photographs, contact details and approved project examples. Decide who will write and approve the copy. Copywriting, photography and stock licences are separate items unless the proposal explicitly includes them.

A useful brief says who the website serves, what makes the service credible and who will give consolidated feedback. A quoted build window depends on timely content, access and approvals; it is not a reason to skip those decisions.

Separate the build fee from ongoing costs

Review the hosting allowance, domain renewal, paid tools and maintenance arrangements alongside the build price. A payment gateway or external service can also have its own fees.

Eligible BuildWithLami builds include the specified infrastructure allowance for 12 months. Before it ends, choose technical care quoted for your site, an optional monthly retainer, or handover to your team. Provider renewals are itemized separately. A monthly development retainer is not required to keep your website online.

Essential Care applies only to qualifying simple static websites. CMS websites and applications need their own care assessment. Monthly plans count all manual work within their stated allowance; unused monthly hours do not roll over.

Bug-fix support covers faults within the agreed delivery scope and stated warranty period. The first-year infrastructure allowance does not include a year of ongoing care. New pages, integrations or product features need a separate scope.

What to include when requesting a quote

A short, specific brief is more useful than a long list of technologies. Send the following and I can discuss a suitable scope.

  • Your business and the customers you want to reach.
  • The main action visitors should take.
  • Required pages, editing needs and integrations.
  • Existing content, brand assets and example websites you like.
  • Your preferred launch window and budget range.
  • Whether the contracting business is in Nigeria or another market.

Compare the right regional package

BuildWithLami lists Nigerian and international starting prices. They are regional offers, not a live currency conversion. Confirm the applicable market, deliverables and billing currency in the proposal.

For an example of a more involved business website, review Sourceline Limited. Its case study shows service information, content management and enquiry workflows. That combination should be scoped on its own merits rather than treated as a basic brochure site.
